The Gilbane project team collaborated with the sub teams on several occasions to overcome obstacles and issues with re-sequencing the direction of structural framing and the facade. They have stayed on top of OT changes, and payments have been reasonably consistent with the Gilbane team working through the ACPS process. The project is tracking completion for the 2024 school year in spite of all the issues and obstacles.

What was special about this team?
Excellent communication between all of the parties, strong coordination efforts between the subcontractors and the fair treatment of the subs all played a role in fostering a great team. The project was organized from both a project management and field operations standpoint. This meant timely payments and fair change order resolution. There was a true sense that the team wanted everyone involved in the project to be successful. The project was also subject to complicated DC compliance standards. Throughout the life of the project, all subcontractors were held accountable for their scope which really made for a smooth finish. HITT did an excellent job of providing supervision on every floor, locking doors where work was complete and monitoring subs going in or out of the project. This project was well-run and allowed even the finish contractors to be successful. Lastly, the project provided opportunities for many CBE and small business entities in the District.

Project Name: Reston Hospital Surgery Expansion
Project Address: 11645 SANDAL WOOD LN, Manassas, VA
Owner/Developer Name: HCA Healthcare
General Contractor Name: DPR
Designer Names: I. C. Thomasson Associates, Inc. (MEP Designer)

Major Subcontractors: BION, inc., Wayne Insulation, Custom Sheet Metal, Perlectric

What was special about this team?
This project consisted of relocating the hospital pharmacy and engineering departments to make room for four (4) new operating rooms and their associated support spaces. The difficulty was the new ORs would be located adjacent to the Central Mechanical Plant. This meant that a large amount of chilled water piping, steam piping, heating piping, plumbing piping and medical gas piping would have to be relocated while the hospital remained operational. It was determined that a large portion of the ductwork piping would be required to be relocated to the roof above. This change in the project increased our mechanical contract amount by 85%. At the same time, the hospital needed the work complete in 8 weeks. What made this team special: Communication between the owner, GC, involved trades was constant, timely and cooperative. Decisions could be made without holding up production. The change orders were processed quickly and fairly. The GC did their part to facilitate all processes as well as cashflow during the change order approval process with the owner. The hospital staff was just as concerned with the schedule as the contractors and alleviated as many roadblocks as possible. After many long hours and weekends, the work was completed on schedule with minimal disruption to the hospital. Without a great team, this would not have been possible.

PCC Construction Components had the pleasure of working on the Whitman Walker Clinic (Max Robinson Center) along with many other industry colleagues. As a team, we all worked through multiple solutions to design issues that arose throughout the project. Through this team process, we were able to complete a monumental Project that is currently being utilized within the community.
